Gojo Wakamiya Pottery Festival brings Kyoto's ceramic tradition back to Gojozaka. In 2026, more than 130 kilns, ceramic artists, and pottery brands are expected to gather with Kyo ware, Kiyomizu ware, and distinctive work from across Japan.
The pleasure is not only finding a cup or plate. It is meeting the maker, noticing how glazes change in evening light, and seeing a working craft tradition inside an everyday Kyoto street.
## 2026 event details
The festival runs from August 7 to 10, from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Admission is free. Stalls line both sides of Gojo Street between Yamato-oji and Higashioji, with more vendors and food around Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine and nearby shops. Individual opening times may vary.

Late afternoon is cooler and leads naturally into the lantern-lit evening. Walk the full market once before buying, then return to the pieces you remember. Ask the maker whether an item is microwave- or dishwasher-safe and request travel packaging.
Kiyomizu-Gojo Station is about a five-to-eight-minute walk away. Use the train when possible and bring water, sun protection, and a reusable bag with padding.
