What to know
Omen turns a bowl of udon into a small ritual. Add seasonal vegetables and sesame to the dipping broth, then eat the noodles at your own pace. It is especially satisfying after walking the Philosopher's Path.
The meal is recognisably Kyoto without being formal. Vegetables matter as much as the noodles, portions are generous, and the Ginkaku-ji branch works for solo travellers, couples, and families.
Opening patterns differ by day, and Thursday closures can vary. Check the official calendar before crossing the city. The Ginkaku-ji shop accepts reservations by phone, but not through automated reservation agents.
